YEREVAN. - Withholding VAT from medicines in Armenia can make them cheaper. Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Healthcare Sergey Khachatryan said the aforementioned in the parliament, introducing the bill on the new edition of the Law on Medicines. The debates round the document were launched today.
Responding to the questions of the MPs on why the VAT on medicine should be zero in Georgia (which makes them cheaper) but not in Armenia, Khachatryan said: “If we zero out the VAT, the medicines may indeed get cheaper. But the issue also has a financial aspect. Hence, we can only express our opinion, but generally the decision is up to the government.”
