YEREVAN. – In 2015, there were no achievements in architecture in Armenia.

Chairman of the Union of Architects of Armenia, Mkrtich Minasyan, noted the above-said at a press conference on Tuesday.

He said architecture is closely linked to the country’s economy, and therefore if there is economic growth, architecture likewise becomes more active.

“There has been a decline this year in the domain of architecture [in the country],” Minasyan stated. “There were many projects that were never implemented.

“There still are projects whose implementation depends on how much economic growth our country will have so we my implement them.

“Sometimes the word of the money investors is weightier than that of the architects.”

Architect Sashur Kalashyan, for his part, noted that now, the most important task for Armenian architects is the preservation of architectural monuments.

“Today, there are situations sometimes that we are being forced to resort to extreme measures to preserve our monuments, since they are primarily out of the focus of the state and society,” Kalashyan added. “The main reason is that there is no body that unites the architects.”
