YEREVAN. - Over the last few years Armenia has become more interesting for young tourists. Mekhak Apresyan, Head of the Tourism Development Policy Department at Armenia’s Ministry of Economy told Armenian News – NEWS.am today.
If in 2006-07, 18-35-year-olds constituted only 6 per cent of foreign tourists in Armenia, their number reached 34 percent in 2013. “This means that Armenia is also interesting for the youth. We already have about two dozens of hostels, and overall 340 accommodation facilities. More than 20 of them have opened only over the last 3 years,” Apresyan said.
In Apresyan’s words, as compared to 2000, it’s almost impossible to recognize the republic. The country had only 3-4 hotels then, which could host tourists – and all of them in Yerevan.
And now over 60 percent out of the mentioned 340 accommodation facilities are located in the provinces, let alone over 200 B&Bs in the provinces and Yerevan. The country has nearly 10,000 hotel sites in total, Apresyan said.
