YEREVAN. – National Assembly (NA) of Armenia Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov, who also heads the NA Armenia-Greece Parliamentary Friendship Group and has traveled to Athens on a working visit, on Wednesday met with Speaker Nikos Voutsis of the Hellenic Parliament.
Sharmazanov’s staff informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that, first, the deputy speaker of the Armenian parliament congratulated Voutsis for being elected chairman of the Greek parliament. Also, he underscored Armenian-Greek relations, and expressed the hope that bilateral parliamentary relations will continue to develop.
The interlocutors highlighted mutual visits and close practical contacts.
“Armenians and Greeks should unite their efforts in the fight against Turkish denialism [of genocides],” Eduard Sharmazanov stated, in particular.
Nikos Voutsis, for his part, expressed satisfaction that in March 2015, the Armenian parliament unanimously adopted a statement condemning Assyrian and Greek genocides in the Ottoman Empire.
In addition, the interlocutors reflected on the avenues for the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
