NEW YORK. - Efforts toward the settlement of the Karabakh conflict should be intensified under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Germany’s FM Frank-Walter Steinmeier said the aforementioned at a UN Security Council session in New York today.  

He attached special attention to frozen and protracted conflicts.  

According to the FM, this form of fatalism shouldn’t be put up with. During many years these conflicts caused rigours to the peoples involved in them, as well as region’s stagnation, he said.

In Steinmeier’s words, during the German OSCE Chairmanship, they want to exert all efforts to return to more constructive approaches: enhancement of ceasefire and restoration of trust by small, tangible steps, the FM said.

Germany, the diplomat continued, is concerned about the number of fatal incidents on the Karabakh conflict Line of Contact and the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

According to the FM, they should find a way for the fastest reduction of the number of victims, and not get disappointed in the process of searching for a solution to the conflict on the basis of the principle of non-use of force, territorial integrity and right to self-determination, Frank-Walter Steinmeier stressed.
