A new rapporteur on Azerbaijan has today been appointed at the session of PACE Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights in Paris.

Belgian Deputy Alain Destexhe has been appointed human rights rapporteur on Azerbaijan instead of Pedro Agramunt, APA reports.

In the framework of PACE’s June session in 2014, the document entitled “ “Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship of the Council of Europe: What follow-up on respect for human rights?”.?” was adopted.

To study this issue, Pedro Agramunt was appointed human rights rapporteur on human rights in Azerbaijan. In connection with the fact that he was elected PACE President in January, his powers as rapporteur were terminated.

Agramunt’s report drew the indignation of the Azerbaijani human rights defenders.
