In the framework of his official visit to Cyprus, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan today met with President of Cyprus House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou, Information and Public Relations Department at Armenian President’s Administration reports. 

The Armenian President thanked Mr Omirou for the warm reception of the official Armenian delegation in brotherly Cyprus, the current relations with which aren’t qualitatively inferior to the friendly ties between the countries in the past.

The Armenian President and President of Cyprus House of Representatives recalled their previous meetings with warmth. They agreed that the historically warm ties established between the Armenian and Cypriot peoples regained a new value after the independence of Armenia, the interstate relations developing in the spirit of mutual understanding and friendship.

Sargsyan praised Mr Omirou’s personal great contribution to all this, recalling the adoption of the law on criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial in Cyprus, which was initiated by him, as well as the participation of the Cypriot President in the events commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Yerevan.

The sides also attached importance to the close cooperation between the two friendly states in the framework of the parliamentary assemblies. Sargsyan and Omirou exchanged ideas on the pressing issues included in the foreign policy agenda of Armenia and Cyprus, noting that teh countries firmly stand by each other’s side on the way to solving those issues. 

The Armenian President also had meetings with Archbishop of All Cyprus and representatives of the Armenian community in Cyprus.
