YEREVAN. – The European Union (EU) stands ready to continue assisting in the ongoing reforms in Armenia and deepening bilateral cooperation. 

Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, noted the abovementioned at Friday’s seventh meeting—at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia—of the EU-Armenia Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security. 

The event brought together representatives from the Armenian state agencies and EU.

In his remarks, Deputy Minister of Justice Vigen Kocharyan underscored the development of Armenia-EU discourse and collaboration. Also, he stressed that the fight against corruption is a primary task of the Armenian authorities and that several respective reforms are being implemented.

At the request of the EU associates, Kocharyan also presented the ongoing judicial reforms in Armenia.

Subcommittee Co-Chair and Head of Division for bilateral relations with the Eastern Partnership countries in the European External Action Service, Dirk Schuebel, and Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, for their part, highlighted that Armenia has developed a good strategy and action plans regarding judicial and several other reforms, and recorded that there is a significant progress.

Also, the EU representatives positively assessed Armenia’s efforts in transparent governance, public sector development, migration management, fight against terrorism, and border control.
