YEREVAN.  - Use of force in the zone of Karabakh conflict is unacceptable.

Secretary-General of the Organization Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), Michaëlle Jean, said the aforementioned at the meeting with the Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian today.  

Nalbandian briefed Michaëlle Jean on the consequences of the large-scale aggression launched by Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh on April 1, as well as the ensuing situation, Armenian MFA press-service reports.

The Secretary-General expressed deep concern about the developments, noting that the OIF and the Francophonie countries cannot remain indifferent to the developments in the zone of Karabakh conflict. According to her, it is necessary to immediately cease fire and continue the talks in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Michaëlle Jean noted that the president of 80 OIF member-states and observers at the Dakar summit have precisely expressed their position on that there is no alternative to the exclusively peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict. She also stressed that the summit declaration clearly says that the conflict settlement should be based on the non-use of force or threat to use force, equality of nations, as well as principles of self-determination of peoples and territorial integrity.  

By the end of the meeting, Michaëlle Jean and FM Nalbandian signed a three-year program of cooperation between Armenia and OIF.

Thereafter Edward Nalbandian left for Berlin to take part in the official visit of the Armenian President to Germany.
