Binali Yıldırım, the newly appointed Prime Minister of Turkey, again reflected on the resolution on Armenian Genocide recognition, and which the Bundestag—the lower house of the German parliament—will put to a vote on Thursday.

Yıldırım announced that he had a telephonic conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and regarding this resolution, and that he warned her not to allow its passing in the Bundestag, according to Sözcü daily newspaper of Turkey.

“Angela Merkel told me that she will do what’s possible, but [she said] we must not forget that Germany is a democratic country, where there is a democratic parliament,” the Turkish PM stated.

Binali Yıldırım added that the respective Bundestag voting will be a test of Turkish-German relations.
