YEREVAN. – Vice President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov, on Thursday had a telephonic conversation with Vice-President Edelgard Bulmahn of the German Bundestag.
The NA deputy speaker highly appreciated the passing of the Armenian Genocide resolution by the Bundestag, a few hours ago. Sharmazanov expressed a conviction that this resolution will open a new path toward international recognition and condemnation of genocides.
“With this step, Germany reaffirmed its commitment to democratic values and protection of human rights,” he stressed.
The Bundestag vice president, for her part, noted that this resolution has called what had occurred like it was. Bulmahn underscored the need for facing history, revealing the realities from the depths of history, and overcoming problems.
The Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament, on Thursday formally recognized the Armenian Genocide.
