MOSCOW. - Berlin has approached the position of Moscow in the issue of the Armenian Genocide committed in the Ottoman Empire, official Spokeswoman for the Russian MFA, Maria Zakharova, stated Thursday.

“This (adoption of the resolution on the Armenian Genocide) is, of course, the domestic matter of the German Federal Republic, she said. But I would like to remind that the corresponding statements of the State Duma on this issue were adopted long ago. The position of the Russian side is very precise in this matter.”

“Today it can be said that Germany also approached the Russian position,” the diplomat added.

The Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament, on Thursday formally recognized the Armenian Genocide.
