The police surrounded the Consulate General of Germany in Istanbul, Deutsche Welle reported.

The law enforcement officers blocked the street leading to the building and put up water cannons.

These measures are taken in connection with a protest action which was held at the Consulate building. Participants of the action opposed the Bundestag resolution on the Armenian genocide recognition.

Earlier it was reported that Turkey recalled its Ambassador from Germany to the Foreign Ministry in connection with the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Turkey also recalled its Ambassador from Berlin for consultations.

The Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament, on Thursday formally recognized the Armenian Genocide, with the resolution and with only one vote against and one abstention. Turkey condemned the decision.
