YEREVAN. -- The main promoter of the adoption of the Armenian Genocide resolution by the Bundestag was the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, told an expert of Turkic studies, Andranik Ispiryan, to reporters , noting that the recent decision of Germany was a heavy slap across Turkey.
"The main promoter of the resolution was Erdogan. This is a result of the Turkish policy implemented in Europe in the recent years; a result of blackmailing Europe and Germany in the refugees issues. This resolution entered into the parliament a year ago, however, was postponed for a suitable occasion. There was no better chance for Germany than this. Germany, thereby, managed to give a heavy slap across Turkey. All the MPs, even MPs of Turkish origin, voted in favor of the resolution. There was only one vote against the resolution done to provide a sense of a democratic parliament, "he said.
The expert noted that this was a political decision, since history has shown a moral aspect becomes crucial unless there is a political decision adopted.
"Turkey is in a very bad condition. Germany, the main ally of Turkey during the First World War, recognized the Armenian genocide and even more stressed its complicity [in that crime]. Soon other steps will follow that resolution. The issue of compensation might be reflected. If it benefits the superpowers, perhaps they would remind Turkey about a compensation. "
According to him there was formulated an opinion in Turkey and the whole world that after the 100th centennial of the Armenian Genocide the responsibility that has aroused will be voided.
"The adoption of the resolution by Germany leads to the conclusion that nothing is finished and there is a space to move forward. The adoption of that resolution will again bring to life discussions about recognition of the Armenian Genocide. It will also assist such resolutions to come into agenda," he said.
According to him, Turkey will avoid to cut relations with Germany, as latter is important for Turkey, especially in economic relations.
