YEREVAN. – A total of 36 new volunteers of the US Peace Corps in Armenia took an oath Friday at Komitas Chamber Music House, in capital city Yerevan (PHOTOS)
Charles Enciso, Country Director for US Peace Corps/Armenia, told reporters that these volunteers will soon head for various villages in the country, to work in the local schools and participate in the community development project.
The volunteers, who will live and work in Armenia for two years, have taken online Armenian courses before coming to the country, and they continue learning the language.
These volunteers are in Armenia for already three months, and they live with host families.
US Deputy Chief of Mission Clark Price conducted the oath ceremony for the volunteers, and Minister of Education and Science of Armenia Levon Mkrtchyan also was on hand at the event.
This is the 24th group of Peace Corps volunteers in Armenia. They belong to diverse ethnic and racial groups, they have different religious, social and economic status, and their ages range between 21 and 76.
More than 950 US Peace Corps volunteers have worked in Armenia since 1992.
