American Armenian Carolyn Rafaelian is 26th in the Forbes 2016 ranking of America’s Richest Self-Made Women.

The net worth of 49-year-old Rafaelian is estimated at $700 million.

The daughter of a jewelry factory owner, Carolyn Rafaelian started her New Age, celestial-chic bangle company, Alex and Ani—named after two of her daughters—in 2004. She remains its CEO and chief creative officer. 

To keep costs low, she uses mainly recycled materials, including scrap metals.

The company, which is known for its zodiac-themed charm bracelets, now brings in an estimated $500 million in sales and has 65 stores.
