The Armenian Community of Madrid on Friday launched a public assembly outside the German embassy of the Spanish capital city.

During the event, the Armenians thanked Germany for its Bundestag’s adoption of the resolution that recognizes and condemns the Armenian Genocide.

The participants in the gathering were holding the national flags of Armenia and Germany as well as signs.

The attendees also distributed information pamphlets to passers-by.

At the end of the public assembly, the participants handed a thank-you letter to a representative of the German embassy.

The Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament, on Thursday formally recognized the Armenian Genocide, with the aforesaid resolution and with only one vote against and one abstention. The resolution also notes that the Bundestag regrets that the German government at the time did nothing to stop this crime against humanity, and therefore the Bundestag also acknowledges the respective historical accountability of Germany.
