The Nigerian authorities have been able to return about 9.1 bln stolen dollars in the framework of the country’s anti-corruption policy, RIA Novosti reports, citing Reuters.

“All this money has been compensated at the expense of the persons and enterprises, which have concealed, stolen, used, or disposed of the money belonging to the nation,” Special Advisor to the Ministry of Information and Culture, Segun Adeyemi said.

However, he didn’t mention specific organizations and persons, which embezzled the money or failed to pay the debts in time.  The mentioned sum was returned in a year during the first term of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Ministry reports.

The Nigerian government launched an active anti-corruption policy upon the instruction of President Buhari last year. The authorities are investigating the cases of corruption, which the government authorities might have been involved in. Apart from this, an audit was conducted for the 2011-2015 period, which concerned military contacts. At the end of March, the Nigerian authorities accused nearly 300 companies and private persons of corruption.

According to the agency, the Nigerian authorities also plan to restore over $320 million dollars from the accounts of their citizens in Switzerland, UK and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
