At least 2.4 million Americans have used the legal services of Mossack Fonseca to establish an offshore company, writes The New York Times.
The daily referring to the Panama papers reports that the US citizens registered at least 2.8 thousand offshore companies in the British Virgin Islands, the Seychelles, and Panama.
The experts estimate the loss of the federal budget due to use of off-shores at about $ 40-70 billion. The NYT writes that many of the concluded transactions are legal, since the US provides legitimate bases to open offshore accounts, when setting up business or buying real estate in a foreign country abroad.
However, many documents, such as email messages, copies of passports , lists of banking transactions, and even different code names show that Mossack Fonseca provided to clients more services than the opening of shell companies and accounts . As it turned out, it had guidelines for avoiding taxes and financial disclosure information.
