YEREVAN. – The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) seeks to use the existing potential to prevent conflict situations at an early stage.

CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha noted the abovementioned at Wednesday’s joint news conference, in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, with newly appointed secretary Armen Gevorgyan of the National Security Council of Armenia.

He stated this in response to the question as to what the CSTO can do to prevent events similar to the aggression which Azerbaijan had unleashed against Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), in early April.

In his words, a crisis response system, which envisions monitoring of and responding to the situation, is being developed for this very objective. Bordyuzha added that political potential is a key means.

Among other important matters, the CSTO secretary general pointed to the army capacity growth, and technico-military cooperation among the CSTO member countries, whereby arms sales with preferential prices are envisioned for Armenia.

As per the CSTO chief, it is also indispensable to strengthen the capacity of the law enforcement agencies of this organization. 

Also, Nikolay Bordyuzha expressed a view that CSTO peacekeeping forces need to be used solely in the regions which impact the security of the members of this organization.
