Armenia has worsened its position in the Global Peace Index falling from last year’s 91st place to 110.

Among the regional states, Armenia and Georgia (85) remain the most peace-loving nations. The neighboring Azerbaijan is ranked 134th, Turkey – 145th and Iran – 133rd.

The tenth edition of the Global Peace Index ranks 163 independent states and territories according to their level of peacefulness. The report shows that amidst the global deterioration the world continues to spend enormous resources on creating and containing violence but very little on peace.  It evaluation is done according to 22 indicators, ranging from a nation’s level of military expenditure to its relations with neighbouring countries and the percentage of prison population.

Iceland remains the world’s most peaceful country, followed by Denmark, Austria, New Zealand and Portugal.

The least peaceful country is Syria, followed by South Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia.
