Sweden will not abandon nuclear engineering. Despite the plans to completely switch to renewable energy sources until 2040, the country will be building 10 new reactors, writes the Financial Times. The government of Sweden has signed an agreement with the opposition on issues of energy policy of Sweden. According to the agreement, new reactors will replace the old ones.

The issue of the use of nuclear energy in Europe is still very acute after the accident at Fukushima- 1 nuclear power plant in 2011.  After that catastrophe, Germany, for example, announced to suspend all its operating nuclear power plants by 2022. Now about 40 percent of Sweden's electricity is provided by ten reactors, four of which are already very old and need to be suspended by the end of the decade.

The authorities of Sweden neither explained what technologies they will be using during the construction of new reactors, nor informed about the companies that involved in it. The agreement also stipulates that, next year, Sweden will gradually reduce collecting taxes for the reactors, since due to high taxes on energy, the companies are under threat of closing.
