The Turkish President has approved the bill which can throw his toughest critics out of the political life and send them to prison, Norwegian VG newspaper reports.

The Turkish army is fighting against the Kurdish rebels in the south-east; ISIL is launching rockets through the border from Syria; large cities of Ankara and Istanbul have repeatedly been subjected to terrorist attacks, the Turkish government being in a heated conflict with EU.

But there is also another No 1 topic which is now discussed in all political debates: deputy immunity.  

This topic has attracted great attention also abroad, since it has twice led to fisticuffs in the Turkish parliament.  All this can result in a political ‘earthquake’, which will possibly change NATO member Turkey and influence its relations with EU.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan approved the bill which lifts the MPs’ immunity from criminal prosecution. Currently, overall 799 cases have been instituted against 152 different MPs.

Erdoğan personally launched a case against the leader of the largest opposition party, Republican People’s Party (CHP), Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

However, the new law is supposed to first of all target the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), Inosmi reports.
