The American lawmakers, whose visit to Baku in 2013 was funded by the Government of Azerbaijan, returned the precious gifts they had received, after a watchdog report qualified it as unacceptable, reports the Hill. The list of gifts returned to the US General Services Administration gives more information about the visit.

In total, 9 members of the Congress and 32 staff members participated in the conference , and each of them received gifts that cost thousands of dollars - earrings , tea sets , silk scarves, rugs, etc. Some of the lawmakers flew from Baku to Turkey , where they received additional gifts. The watchdog reports that several non-governmental organizations in Texas announced  as if they had covered the costs of the visit, but, in reality, it was  the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan that had financed the trip.  About a week before the House Ethics Committee published a report about the visits  , the members of the Congress have begun returning the gifts.
