STEPANAKERT. - The communication with the Belgian MPs has become more active since last September, this creating good grounds for developing mutual relations.

The Speaker of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) National Assembly (NA) Ashot Ghoulyan stated the aforementioned Saturday at the meeting with the Member of the Belgian Parliament and PACE, Piet De Bruyn, Karabakh NA representatives told Armenian News - NEWS.am

The meeting was attended by NKR NA Deputy Speaker Vahram Balayan, head of Hayrenik faction Arthur Tovmasyan, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Davit Melkumyan, as well as the Head of the European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy Kasbar Garabedian and member of the Armenian NA Shirak Torosyan.

Ashot Ghoulyan highly appreciated the decision of the European MP to visit Artsakh and get familiarized on the ground with the consequences of the large-scale aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan in early April.

Referring to the history of the Karabakh conflict and current developments, the NA Speaker noted that the activity of the OSCE Minsk Group is aimed at the normalization of the conflict through negotiations, but these efforts have proved futile so far as a result of Azerbaijan’s deconstructive stance, which is manifested by the perversion of the essence and negotiation format of the Karabakh issue.

“Our colleagues should understand that the international recognition of Artsakh implies enshrining its people’s right to life,” Fhoulyan noted.

For his part, Piet De Bruyn thanked for the warm reception, also inquiring about the recent months’ activity of the OSCE Minsk Group, as well as the structure, legislative activity and inter-parliamentary ties of the Artsakh NA.
