Within the framework of the Moscow Urban Forum held in Manege  Executive Director, New York City Department of City Planning Purnima Kapur stated that her city hardly reaches scales of the Chinese megalopolises, meaning first of all Beijing and Shanghai, Lenta reported.

She said that the concept of huge megalopolises is alien to the U.S.. New York will never merge with the neighboring cities. As she mentioned, they are far from the Chinese agglomerations with a population of 80 million. About 8.5 million people live in New York and nearly 10 million in its vicinities.

At the same time she added that U.S. major cities have always depended on the region and worked closely with them. In their Department they created group of city planning for exchange of information and creation of dialogue between the cities to see what projects can work together.

Urban Forum was held in Moscow from June 30 to July 3. About 120 experts from Europe, the U.S., Mexico, India, China, Japan and other countries speak at the event. The subject of the forum is  "Fast-Growing Megacities: Technologies forDynamic Development."
