The U.S. conducted airstrikes against Islamic State in Libya, Pentagon officials said.

 Blows were targeted at primary stronghold in Sirte, The Wall Street Journal reported.

According to representatives of military department, the U.S. President sanctioned airstrikes in order to assist the Libyan government troops. Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook told journalists that a tank which was firing at government troops and civilians was destroyed in an airstrike. Two vehicles of fighters were destroyed by another struck.

According to the Pentagon spokesman, airstrikes of the U.S. Air Force against ISIS in Sirte will be continued.
