More armed police officers will appear on London's streets from Wednesday, Metropolitan Police commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan stated, BBC reported.

City authorities have taken such measures after frequent attacks by extremists in Europe, in particular on the French Riviera where the lorry driver drove into the crowd  during celebration of the Day of the Bastille.

“We have seen attacks in Germany, in Belgium, in France and we would be foolish to ignore that, so it's important that we get officers out there with firearms to respond”, Hogan-Howe stated.

 According to him, the armed police officers will patrol some districts of the city around the clock. First of all, it is about tourist attractions and public places.

Earlier, the police reported about plans to increase the number of the armed police officers on city streets up to 600 people. Also, the British police have plans to train an extra 1,500 firearms officers to help protect the public from terrorism.
