YEREVAN. - Armenia is a very small state and to some extent it’s clear that Russia and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) serve as its ‘umbrella’, political analyst and Orientalist Karine Gevorgyan said at a press-conference on Wednesday.

In her words, the recent events in Armenia, i.e. seizure of the Erebuni police station and the ensuing events, have two contours: internal and external. “The internal contour is quite well-known, and the reasons of social dissatisfaction and people’s taking to the street are quite evident; there is no need to discuss them,” Gevorgyan noted.

According to the analyst, talks on surrendering lands in Nagorno-Karabakh raise the level of anxiety in the society.

Touching on the external contours, Karine Gevorgyan stressed that she is in no event going to primitively and ‘cheaply’ defend Russia or Europe.  “Armenia’s potential for sovereignty is small, since it is a small territory. Those who are present here for a long time begin to annoy: there are talks that Armenia should get rid of Russian colonialism. But there are no guarantees that someone else will not come here and the same talks will not resume,” the analyst stressed.
