Turkish military officer is seeking asylum in the US after he was called back to Turkey after attempting a coup, Reuters reported, citing US sources.
According to the agency, this is the first known case involving a Turkish officer in the United States after a massive clean-up operations in the Turkish army in connection with the coup attempt.
The source said, the officer worked at NATO headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia. His name and titles are not revealed. Nevertheless, the Turkish representative of the US Embassy reported the disappearance of Rear Admiral Mustafa Ugurlu, after the Turkish authorities issued a warrant for his arrest.
