The meeting of presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan promotes political settlement in Syria, the European Commission's Deputy Chief Spokeswoman Mina Andreeva said.

She said that it was a bilateral meeting but emphasized that from the European point of view it could promote stability in the region as well as peaceful settlement in Syria.

Russian and Turkish presidents held  first talks after an eight-month strained period in relations caused by the attack of the Turkish Air Force in November last year on the Russian bomber Su-24.
