Washington considers the possibility of imposing sanctions against Russia in response to the hacking of networks of Democratic Party, The Wall Street Journal reported quoting several sources familiar with the matter.

Introducing of sanctions would require the White House to publicly accuse Russia, or Russian-backed hackers, of committing the breach and then leaking embarrassing information.

The decision making process on sanctions can be lengthy. Even if U.S .officials come to the conclusion that hackers were supported by Russia, they will have to weigh a number of possible responses.

U.S. intelligence agencies accused the Russian authorities of organization of hacker attacks on e-mail of Democrats in late July. The Kremlin denied the accusations. Russian President's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov in response to these statements reported that Russian Ministries are never engaged in cyberterrorism.
