France and Germany have welcomed the temporary cease-fire agreement in the eastern part of Ukraine, reports the DW.

On September 1 the French President Francois Hollande and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel issued a joint statement, saying that they fully support the agreement on cease-fire reached under the auspices of the Trilateral Contact Group, which should be ensured in all the zones of the conflict from the beginning of the new academic year.  The document also says that the leaders are deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine and hope that the cessation of fire will mark the beginning of a long-term cease-fire.
