The Gabonese authorities arrested more than 1,100 people during the last two days while suppressing disorders in the country, reports the TASS, referring to the announcement of the  Minister of Internal Affairs of Gabon. According to him, 600-800 people were arrested in the capital, whereas the rest in the rural areas. The police took grenades and automatic weapons from the protesters.

As reported earlier, the protests kicked off in Gabon, after the President Ali Bongo had been re-elected. Yesterday, the protesters set the parliament building to fire. At the same time, additional units of power structures were deployed in the capital to prevent more violence. The police makes efforts to prevent looting. The police took the building of the parliament, the office of the  opposition leader Jean Ping, and the editorial buildings of state affiliated Union daily newspaper under a special protection.
