YEREVAN. - The establishment of joint Armenian-Georgian enterprises in Armenia may be promising; this will facilitate the entrance of Georgian companies to the common EAEU market.

Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said the aforementioned at the meeting with his Georgian counterpart Giorgi Kvirikashvili, who is in Armenia on an official visit. The Georgian PM welcomed this idea and suggested discussing the further steps in a working group format.

During the tête-à-tête meeting, the Armenian and Georgian PMs expressed satisfaction with the political and economic relations between the countries, touching on the perspectives for their development, the Government press-service informed Armenian News – NEWS.am.

Abrahamyan and Kvirikashvili also stressed the positive dynamics of the commodity turnover between the two countries and discussed issues related to the deepening of trade and economic cooperation.

The meeting of the PMs was followed by that of the official delegations of both countries in an expanded format. At the meeting, PM Hovik Abrahamyan noted: “The active cooperation between the authorities of both countries is growing, significant progress being observed in the Armenian-Georgian relations. The mutual visits at the highest level contribute to this process, and your visit will also strengthen our cooperation from both political and economic viewpoints. The role and significance of Georgia for Armenia are important not only in terms of bilateral ties, but also for ensuring the security of the entire region.”

For his part, the Georgian PM stressed: “During the recent years, the mutual Armenian-Georgian relations have stood out for their development rates; a number of official visits took place at the highest level, which contribute to the development of our relations in different directions. We are pleased with the fact that the cooperation level between our countries in economic areas is quite high, the joint intergovernmental commission working effectively.”

Hovik Abrahamyan and Giorgi Kvirikashvili discussed a wide scope of issues regarding the Armenian-Georgian cooperation in the area of trade and economics, energy, transportation, tourism and education. In terms of invigorating the trade and economic cooperation, both sides underscored the importance of the Armenian-Georgian intergovernmental commission. The sides agreed to give new impetus to the activities of the commission.

 

The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the cooperation level in the spheres of energy and transportation, touching on the current programs. Abrahamyan and Kvirikashvili underscored the importance of developing the energy cooperation both in bilateral and multilateral formats, welcoming the meetings between the energy sphere representatives of Armenia, Georgia, Russia and Iran, which took place in December 2015 and April 2016 in Yerevan.

According to the interlocutors, the aforementioned meetings will give an opportunity to initiate and realize investment programs of regional significance. The sides alsi stressed the importance of implementing the North-South Energy Corridor project.

Apart from this, Abrahamyan and Kvirikashvili referred to the power transmission lines, attaching importance to the relevant work underway.
