YEREVAN. - President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on Monday received Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, who has arrived in Armenia on an official visit.

The president welcomed the guest, expressing hope that his first official visit to Yerevan will contribute to the strengthening of the ties between the two friendly countries and also give new impetus to the interstate relations.

Sargsyan underscored the importance of high-level visits, which, according to him, are a good opportunity for discussing the issues on the Armenian-Georgian agenda in a constructive and warm atmosphere and for identifying new chances of cooperation.

Stressing that Armenia and Georgia are not only friendly states but also two people tied by historically formed centuries-old brotherly relations, the President noted that those ties should constantly be developed and strengthened. In his words, the current high level of political dialogue between the two countries allows to deepen the bilateral ties in all directions, bringing them to a qualitatively new level.

Thanking for the warm reception, PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili noted that he is happy to be in a friendly country, which has centuries-old history of relations with Georgia. According to him, the Georgian people and government attach great importance to the development of those relations. The mutual understanding between the governments of both countries, as well as the cooperation dynamics of the recent years and active trade and economic ties are good bases for further deepening of the ties, using the great potential to the fullest, he noted.   

In the Georgian PM’s words, the solid friendly ties between Armenia and Georgia are important for both countries, as well as generally in terms of the stability in South Caucasus.  In this context, Kvirikashvili thanked the Armenian President for his great contribution in the development of mutual relations.

At the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the opportunities and potential for expanding the cooperation in a number of areas of mutual interest.
