European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice, and Home Affairs has supported Georgia with the liberalization of visa regime with the EU. 44 EU MPs voted in favor of the initiative of the Commission , whereas 5 voted against, reports the Gruzia Online . According to the procedure , after the vote of the committee, the issue of providing visa-free regime for Georgia will be included in the agenda of the European Parliament.

In case the European Parliament approves the initiative, the Commission will apply to the EU Council and European Parliament to provide a possibility for the citizens of Georgia to have a visa free entry to the EU, after which the EU Member States will accept that decision. In case a positive decision is issued, the Georgian citizens will be able to travel without a visa in Schengen countries ( plus in four candidate countries , Romania , Bulgaria , Croatia , and Cyprus ) .
