Armenian student comes second in World Olympiad of Greek in Thessaloniki

Armenian student Narine Hakobyan came the second in the World Olympiad of New Greek language in Thessaloniki.

Arkadi Khitarov, Chairman of the Union of Greek NGOs in Armenia, told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The final stage of the Olympiad was held in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in early September. Hakobyan fell behind the winner only by one point, that is she showed the highest level of knowledge of the Greek language and culture, Khitarov added.

Hakobyan studies at the Greek Philology Department of the Yerevan State University (YSU). In the future she wants to proceed with her PhD in Greece.

Ukrainian students Anna Vinnik and Valentine Oleynik came first and third respectively.

The Olympiad was held under the auspices of the Foundation of Ivan Savvidis, a large Russian businessman of Greek descent.

Foreign students, including Diaspora Greeks as well Greek-lovers of other nationalities, took part in the Olympiad.
