U.S. presidential candidate from Republicans Donald Trump opened luxury hotel of near the White House in Washington, Reuters reported.

Trump International Hotel is located in a historic building. The renovation lasted two years and cost $200 million. The hotel has 263 rooms.

The hotel, which includes a $20,000-a-night suite, is less than a mile down Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House.

About 40 protesters who criticized Trump, in particular for his promise to build a wall along the Mexican border to block illegal immigrants, gathered at the building on the opening day.

Trump's daughter Ivanka, who helped negotiate the 60-year lease with the U.S. government and oversaw the building's revamp and design, said the project had come in a year ahead of schedule.

The large-scale opening ceremony of the hotel is planned for October.
