YEREVAN. - The doors of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Armenia are closed for those who “draw” the election results; the CEC Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan has been put within precise rules of the game.

Head of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun parliamentary faction Armen Rustamyan told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am, responding to the question as to why they are supporting the candidacy of Mukuchyan and other CEC members, whom part of the opposition accuses of rigged elections.   

“They worked on this Electoral Code and are well aware of it. The drastic change in the CEC composition may lead to negative consequences,” Rustamyan said.  

The head of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun faction assured that the new Electoral Code has changed the rules of the game: specific control will be exerted which will not give the same composition of CEC the opportunity to act pursuant to the logic of the previous rules.

“It is important for us to understand each other at once. We must be able to bring to the voter the full volume of the novelties; this is a serious issue. Regardless of whether they like it or not, they will do what the political forces require now,” Rustamyan stressed.

Earlier, the parliamentary Committee on State and Legal Affairs nominated Tigran Mukuchyan for the post of the CEC Chairman by 3/5 votes. The representatives of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), ARF Dashnaktsutyun and Prosperous Armenia voted in his favor.
