President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on Friday attended the session of Council of CIS Heads of States.

The meeting was first held in the restricted and later in an extended format.

In the framework of the agenda, the heads of states discussed issues related to the cooperation of the member states in the political, economic, humanitarian and security areas, as well as over a dozen of issues related to countering the new challenges and threats, the press-service of the Armenian President reports.

The discussions were followed by a signing ceremony of documents, inlcuding the statement of the heads of CIS member states, the statement regarding the 70th anniversary of Nuremberg Trials and the decision on the CIS adaptation to the existing reality.  Apart from this, decisions were adopted to declare 2017 and 2018 as years of family and culture respectively.

The signed documents also included the decision on holding consensus in the CIS member states in 2020, Convention on Interregional Cooperation Development, decisions on the cooperation program of CIS member states for struggle against terrorism and other violent expressions of extremism, as well as another cooperation program on struggling against cybercrimes.

It has been decided to hold the next summit of the Council of CIS Heads of States in Moscow in 2017. Russia has taken over the CIS presidency for 2017.
