YEREVAN. – The number of Turkish trucks has again increased at the Upper Lars checkpoint, on the Georgian-Russian border.

Makar Arakelyan, Chairman of the Association of Armenian Freight Forwarders, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that, under these conditions, the idea of opening a separate road—at the said checkpoint—for vehicles from Armenia is becoming topical, yet again.

Against the backdrop of improving relations with Russia, Turkey now transports more cargo to this country. Moreover, working from overland route—via Georgia—is more beneficial for Turkish cargo transporters.

The said separate road will save time, which is important also because exports from Armenia have increased, in general. And this means that more cargo trucks have begun operating.

In Arakelyan’s words, there are no longer any long waiting at customs. The process of cargo transportation has bee facilitated within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union—which comprises Armenia Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
