YEREVAN. – The National Assembly (NA) of Armenia Vice President, Eduard Sharmazanov, on Wednesday received newly appointed Greek Ambassador Nafsika Nancy Eva Vraila.

Sharmazanov lauded the long friendship of the Armenian and Greek peoples, and noted that this friendship is developing further, the NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. He also underscored parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

In addition, the NA deputy speaker thanked the Hellenic Parliament for passing the resolution that recognizes and condemns Armenian Genocide. In this connection, he recalled that the parliaments of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) have unanimously adopted statements that condemn the Ottoman Empire’s genocide of the Pontic Greeks and the Assyrians.

Eduard Sharmazanov also reflected on the four-day war which Azerbaijan had unleashed against Nagorno-Karabakh, in early April, and highlighted the Greek MPs’ visits to Armenia and Artsakh, during those difficult days for the Armenian nation.

Ambassador Vraila likewise underscored active parliamentary cooperation between Armenia and Greece, and noted that it is desirable to collaborate also in domains that still remain open. In addition, the Greek diplomat thanked for the statement which the Armenian NA adopted, and proposed several directions for the development of cooperation. The Armenian parliament vice chairman, for his part, expressed readiness to assist in their implementation.

At the ensuing talk, the interlocutors discussed the challenges facing the Greek community in Armenia, and some other matters of interest.
