The Syrian Defense Ministry explained the need to establish a permanent Russian naval base in Tartus. A permanent Russian naval base in Tartus will strengthen the efficiency of the Syrian army and will allow to faster defeat terrorists, reported the RIA Novosti, referring to the announcement of the Syrian Army General, head of Information Department of the Political Department Samir Suleiman. " This will give… more a great military power in order to quickly put an end to terrorism,” said the military, commenting on the establishment of a permanent naval station in Tartus. 

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Nikolai Pankov, speaking in the Federation Council, said that Russia will establish a naval base in Tartus on a permanent basis, and that the Defense Ministry has already prepared relevant documents.
