YEREVAN. – I wish to hope for the best for Syrian Armenians, but there are few reasons for optimism.

Noravank Scientific Educational Foundation  Executive Director, political scientist Gagik Harutyunyan, noted the aforesaid at a press conference on Tuesday.

In his words, no more than ten thousand Armenians are left in Syria today. And even though no one can make an accurate calculation, it is hard to imagine that they can be more. 

Harutyunyan noted, however, that we need to appreciate the humanitarian mission by the Armenian government, which recently sent two planes carrying humanitarian aid to Aleppo.

“Sadly, our state is unable to organize more extensive aid, including resettlement [in Armenia], albeit this needs to be one of the priorities,” he added. “But what can we speak about when they, the residents of Armenia, [themselves] are leaving the country?”
