Turkey is currently pursuing a "middle path” in regard to rapprochement with the EU, said the chief adviser to the Turkish Prime Minister Mehmet Akarca. "I think the Turkish people do not have high aspirations for this issue. For us it was a path, which seemed to be useful at some stage. However, if any of our politicians now favor further integration, it will not have any impact on his rating, " said Akarca during an interview with a Russian journalist, reports the RIA Novosti.

At the same time, he stressed that it is wrong to claim that Turkey put an end to the EU membership process. "Saying that the Turkish government has changed its mind will be a political statement. Currently, there is no need to declare such a position," he said.
