YEREVAN. - Decision on the CSTO’s strategy for the period up to 2025 was adopted at the organization’s Collective Security Council on Friday. Overall, more than two dozens of documents were signed.

At the briefing held after the CSTO session in Yerevan, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan stated that a number of serious documents aimed at the significant strengthening of the organization’s potential and improvement of collective security mechanisms were adopted.

According to Sargsyan, among the key results of the session was the adoption of the CSTO’s strategy for the period of up to 2025, whose preparation took over five years.

In his words, the member states confirmed the determination to build relations with the international community on the basis of equality, as well as refrain from the threat of force and its use in international relations, adhering to the priority of political and diplomatic methods in solving issues.  

The President also noted that the adoption of Yerevan strategy demonstrated the new qualities of the CSTO coordination. In this context, he also underscored the importance of implementing the previously adopted agreements.

The results of the activity on improving the organization’s military component were summed up and decision was taken to establish crisis response center at the session. Other decisions concerned the joint preparation of military cadres and standardization of military equipment. Documents on the sphere of counteraction to international terrorism were adopted. Apart from this, a decision was made on the provision regulating the activity of the CSTO United Headquarters.

Wishing success to Belarus, which has assumed the presidency in CSTO, Serzh Sargsyan noted that 2017 will mark the 25th and 15th anniversaries of the Agreement on Collective Security and the CSTO respectively.
