In 2016, 4.6 thousand migrants and refugees have died in the Mediterranean Sea, trying to reach European shores, reports RIA Novosti, referring to the International Organization for Migration. As the IOM registered, this year 4621 people died in the Mediterranean, who had tried to reach Europe. Moreover, only in November there drowned five times more people in the Mediterranean Sea, than last year at the same time. 

The IOM notes, that 350 migrants are missing, due to shipwrecks of the last three days. Thus, in 2016 the total number of victims in the Mediterranean Sea is higher by 1000, than it was in the same period last year. The total number of refugees and migrants who reach the EU is 343 thousand.
