European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) recognized violation of the rights of the Azerbaijani journalist and activist of the party Musavat Mustafa Hajibeyli guaranteed by article 3 of the European convention of human rights.

As contact.az reported, the ECHR ruled that Hajibeyli must be paid compensation of 10.000 euro and 3.000 euros in respect of costs.

The complaint was filed because of the mistreatment of the editor of “Democracy” newspaper during the protest action of the opposition April 2, 2011. Hajibeyli was arrested during the dispersal of the peaceful rally, and taken to Nasimi District Police Office of Baku, where he was subjected to inhuman treatment.
