A court in Istanbul, Turkey, has granted the prosecutor’s request for the arrest of the reporter of the German daily Die Welt (The World), Turkish and German citizen Deniz Yücel, reported the German Deutsche Welle (DW) TV and radio company.
Yücel had voluntarily turned himself in to Istanbul police on February 14. Turkish authorities suspect him of being a member in a terrorist organization, spreading propaganda, and abusing the use of information.
Since a state of emergency is imposed in Turkey, suspects can be detained for 14 days without charges being pressed against them.
According to DPA German news agency, in all likelihood, this arrest order is in connection with the Email messages that were leaked from the Email of the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Berat Albayrak, who is the son-in-law of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
These Email messages, which the Redhack hacker group had leaked, were noted in two articles by Deniz Yücel.
Turkey considers Redhack a terrorist organization.
